Fig Grotesk is a playful and approachable sans-serif typeface that blends historical charm with modern geometry. Inspired by a 19th-century specimen from the Amsterdam Type Foundry—specifically the small size of Breede Magee Antieke—the original letterforms featured softly integrated terminals that lost their thick-and-thin contrast. This unique detail, which lent the type an unusually affable look, served as the foundation for Fig Grotesk’s design.
In the reinterpretation process, these subtle curves were translated into a geometric framework, resulting in a sans serif that feels both cleanly contemporary and warmly expressive. Fig Grotesk follows modern grotesque proportions, but its rounded terminals introduce a touch of softness that distinguishes it from more austere counterparts.
With eight weights—Thin to Black—and matching italics across a total of 16 styles, Fig Grotesk is well-suited for branding, logos, headlines, packaging, and editorial subheads. It offers the clarity of a grotesque sans with an added layer of charm and personality.
A friendly grotesque with historical roots and contemporary finesse, Fig Grotesk brings warmth and playfulness to modern typography.
