About the typeface

Contrasting the scientific no-nonsense approach with the open-minded imagination of sci-fi, Science Sans is a clean humanist sans pushing the limits. From its highly legible Regular style, it goes surprisingly far in the dimensions of weight and width, playing with the reader a bit. Inherently humanistic and optimistic by nature, science often goes hand in hand with technologies, improving our lives. Science Sans is my purely fictional attempt to find the common typographic ground between techie startup brandings and popsci magazine covers, between futuristic movie titles and robot manufacturer websites, between the bright future and the reality we’re dealing with.

Designed to help communicating complex topics to wide audiences coherently, the typeface is universal for a whole spectrum of projects. Its widely open letterforms make Regular comfortable to read in texts and headlines; the range of styles however goes far beyond into outer space, giving a lot of options for more expressive typesetting.

The vertical proportions of Science Sans are adaptive to its width. The x-height is average in normal and wide styles, which helps readability and font pairing. Compressing the width, however, makes lowercase letters taller and extenders shorter, which you may find useful for tight spacing commonly needed in posters, headlines and other big-size uses.

The font family comes in 162 styles: 9 widths × 9 weights × 15° italics. It is packed with useful symbols, arrows and OpenType features such as case-sensitive forms, alternatives, fractions, superiors, tabular figures and slashed zero. Of course, all that is also available in the variable font format, which you can get with each sub-family or the full-family. Science Sans supports a lot of Latin-based languages.
